Originally, steelbands were based in inner cities, often referred to as the central areas of major cities, such as Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds and London. Now they have spread across the length and breadth of the United Kingdom, a testament to the pioneers, supporters and the people who have chosen the steelpan as their preferred instrument.
