Ping Pong

The ping pong was a small hand held pan made from a biscuit tin to provide rhythmic music for pleasure during the early 1930's. `

It was believed to have four notes.  However, in order to play more musical pieces, it was later developed into a 14 note pan to play melodic tunes.

With constant experimentation, the ping pong has become the forerunner to the tenor or soprano pan (image above).

The tenor pan is now the melody pan or leading instrument in the pan family.
