The E-Pan

In 2008, the world's first electronic steelpan was introduced.

Its creator, Salmon Cupid, was a former captain of the St Augustine Senior Steel Orchestra and is now a steelpan teacher based in Canada.

This pan was developed to allow pan to explore the avenues open to other musical instruments that have an electronic counterpart. It has the standard note configuration of the fourths and fifths tenor pan for familiarity.  As it is synthesized the pitch of the notes can be altered at the touch of a button and there is an array of musical instruments and sounds to choose from.

The e-pan can be plugged directly into an amplifier and has a CD-Rom built in. You can play it with sticks or just by using your fingers.
