Welcome ...

The steelpan instrument came from the streets of Trinidad in the 1930s to where it is represented now, a global platform aimed to continue its popularity throughout the 2010s.

My Panyard is not just for steelpan players, but for anyone interested in steelpan culture. It is an invaluable resource for anyone who wants to get involved in or with steelpan music so as to gain an in-depth knowledge of the steelpan instruments.

My Panyard is also a model space for imparting knowledge to all generations and to help instil the value of this unique instrument, the steelpan.  As a dynamic training resource for anyone wishing to play the steelpan instrument, it is aimed to provide an excellent experience for all.

This website was created to give unbiased information on steelpan culture and to set consistent goals for all steelpan enthusiasts.

A panyard is traditionally where steelpan instruction is undertaken. It is a place where one can go to get experience and to gain an understanding about the development of the steelpan. Participating in a panyard will give you a first hand experience of the roles and functions of the family of steelpan instruments.

Along with a panyard comes the name of your band. How the name is chosen can be attributed to many things.  Historically bands have chosen names from the area in which they are based, the name of a street, the name of a song, film or an important event in history.

The name My Panyard represents this virtual platform. You are a member of the band.

Today, we all share in the history of the steelpan and in its future.

Whether you are new to steelpans or a seasoned professional, we hope that you will enjoy exploring the subject areas within this website.

Enjoy your visit to My Panyard and create a bookmark or link for future reference.
